Prof. Ingo Jeromin on hessenschau: "Digitization is the solution to the issue of sustainability"

Digitalization is often criticized because of its high power consumption and CO2 emissions. However, the Smart Grid LAB in Rödermark shows that it can also make an important contribution to sustainability.

Under the leadership of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, the project partners Ingenieurbüro Pfeffer, JEAN MÜLLER, QGroup and Tractebel are researching and testing a wide variety of scenarios for the energy system of the future. Above all, the real lab simulates in real time how power flows can be controlled, especially in view of the changes expected with the energy transition. According to Jeromin, digitization is crucial to the topic: "Particularly in the area of energy technology, against the backdrop of the energy transition, we will only be able to realize a sustainable energy system in the future if we also have digitization in energy technology. In other words, without digitization of the energy grid, the energy transition will not succeed."
