Smart Grid LAB Hessian

In a realistic laboratory, the smart grid of the future is examined holistically from various perspectives.
For this purpose, Hessian experts from the fields of research, engineering, IT security and the manufacture of electrotechnical switching and measuring components work together in an interdisciplinary manner to optimise economic, dynamic and safety aspects.
Later, the findings are to be transferred to national and international level.

Real Lab

The Smart Grid LAB Hessen is being set up to test active control procedures in the smart grid and all the necessary functionalities under practical conditions. For this purpose, various scenarios will be developed, such as

  • the increase in renewable, decentralised power generation
  • A higher electricity demand, e.g. due to more electromobility and heat pumps
  • The establishment of prosumers (producers and consumers) with and without storage

The so-called Real Laboratory is being set up under the direction of the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences at Ingenieurbüro Pfeffer in Rödermark, Hesse.
