How systems of electrical energy supply can be built up "intelligently" has been discussed by the industry for many years. A practical "street of the future" in a residential area has now been physically recreated under the name "Smart Grid LAB Hessen" in Rödermark in southern Hesse. Here, the performance data of the individual buildings, which act as prosumers, are to be measured and evaluated in the smart grid of the real laboratory and used to control energy flows. In model form, the LAB demonstrates the future dynamic, efficient and secure energy infrastructure. It is adaptable and can also represent and analyze grid situations in other countries.
